The Westminster Economic Development Initiative has been selected by the City of Buffalo to operate the Kitchen @ the Market. The $464,000 collaboration between the city and the Broadway Market is intended to spur new small businesses in Buffalo's food production industry.
WEDI will select the entrepreneurs who will be able to use the 800-square-foot kitchen, which will be equipped with a stainless steel, commercial-grade stove, refrigerator and freezer, plus sizable prep and storage areas. Located at 999 Broadway, the commissary is set to open this month.
Unlike the West Side Bazaar, which WEDI also operates, the entrepreneurs at the Kitchen @ the Market will create a food product with the goal of selling wholesale, rather than selling directly through small food and retail stands.
