UpstartNY is devoted exclusively to entrepreneurship & innovation in Western New York. We are committed to covering the full entrepreneurial ecosystem in the region, from venture capital-backed, high-growth startups to grassroots, neighborhood small business--and everything in between.
Operated by Issue Media Group, UpstartNY joins a family of publications across the nation. The Michigan-based company founded Model D in Detroit in 2005 and went on to launch more than 20 similar online magazines as far west as Denver and as far south as Tampa.
Issue Media Group was invited to explore the possibility of a Western New York publication by several anchor organizations, and after working with community stakeholders for more than six months launched its publication in May 2017.
UpstartNY is funded through sponsors underwriting coverage of topic areas, such as economic development, neighborhoods, health and transportation. While coverage of specific topic areas is supported, UpstartNY maintains editorial independence. Funders do not assign, approve or review content.
